London's University Halls of Residence Recycling Project
How do we get students reducing, reusing and recycling?
|
We identify areas that would benefit from sustainable waste practices and then bring about change through innovative projects. From November 2004 to March 2006 we visited 185 halls of residence in 24 universities and a 22 London Boroughs housing approximately 40,000 students. We have facilitated the installation of 200 additional external recycling bins and over 11,000 new internal recycling bags for student kitchens.
We have continued to work with students in the London Borough of Islington to maximise recycling. So far this academic year 2006/07 the halls have recycled over 200 tonnes from landfill! |

The project also provides consultancy advice to other Multiple Occupancy Dwellings (MODs) such as key worker housing, where the same the experiences from student accommodation can be applied. We are currently working with Sutherland Housing Group to help implement recycling and sustainabililty in their accomodations. Please contact us if you are interested in finding about how our project can help your organisation achieve sustainability. |
London's University Halls of Residence Recycling Project was developed to increase recycling, encourage reuse and raise awareness of waste reduction among the student population living in halls of residence in London. This has been achieved through the introduction of recycling facilities, the development of partnerships and the delivery of Recycling Implementation Plans to halls of residence.
